Welcome! My name's Kristen, I'm the knitter and pattern designer behind MediaPeruana Designs.

Since I began knitting in 2007, I've slowly but surely developed an uncommon skill: the ability to imagine and bring to life unique knitwear designs, and to then translate those designs into high quality knitting patterns so fellow knitters can recreate them. Creating knitting patterns began as a personal challenge, but it's grown into so much more!

My ultimate goal is simple: to help knitters create projects they love. We all begin knitting for much the same reason--the desire to create something; something one-of-a-kind, something beautiful, something we're proud to say we made with our own 2 hands and a bunch of string. Too often, though, I see knitters settling for something that's just "good enough." It doesn't quite fit, the instructions weren't clear, they couldn't get the hang of a technique, and so on--it's DONE and it's FINE but it's not . . . amazing.

So, how can I help you take your projects, and your knitting, to the next level--from fine to amazing?

The first step is to create garments and accessories you want to wear--stylish but not trendy, with modern shapes and thoughtful details--and turn them into clear, thorough knitting patterns. All MediaPeruana Designs patterns are edited by a skilled tech editor, and most are test knit as well, to ensure that they are straightforward and error-free, while including all the details you need to create amazing finished pieces you'll be thrilled to show off to knitters and non-knitters alike. I publish the majority of my patterns independently, but patterns can also be found over at Holla Knits, Knittin' Little, Knitscene, Knitty, and Knit Picks.

Second, I want to make sure you have the best materials at your disposal--so I regularly review books, yarn and tools, giving you my honest feedback so you can invest your money in quality products that will help you create those amazing finished knits.

Third, I'm working to ensure you have the knowledge and techniques necessary to create your best knits, in a few different ways. You can find video and photo tutorials that I've personally created for specific techniques here on the site--and know that I'm working to expand these in the 2017! You'll also see some links/ads from web-based instructors CreativeLive and Craftsy. These are businesses I have personally tried and endorse for quality web-based instruction. I am also developing and (slowly) introducing in-person classes and workshops offered at yarn shops or fiber events. This is my biggest project for 2017, so stay tuned for more details!

And lastly, let's have some fun along the way--I regularly host knit-a-longs, contests and challenges that I hope bring a little extra joy to your knitting. I also share my own successes and failures on my blog--maybe you'll learn from my mistakes, or maybe it'll just put a smile on your face to read about how I accidentally knit my sweater sleeves two different lengths.

Oh, you just wanted to see the face behind the brand? Well, here are two--me and one of my two beautiful little boys, wearing matching sweaters.

In addition to being a knitwear and pattern designer, I'm a full-time mom to 2 mischievous baby boys and exhausted wife to a very tall Peruvian man I met in my previous life as an international drug policy specialist in Washington, D.C. We live in Maryland with 2 very spoiled cats.

(And just in case you've read allllllll of this looking for the answer--MediaPeruana means half-Peruvian!)
