(Sign-ups close Sunday, October 1. The pattern will be available at its regular retail price, $6, once the KAL is complete.)
How does this KAL work?
Every Monday, a new section of the pattern will be posted, with the last section of the pattern to be posted on Monday, October 23!
Once the KAL starts on October 2, this page will become password protected. When you sign up, you'll receive a password. To download the new section of the pattern every week, just hop over to this page and enter your password--easy peasy lemon squeezy.
As KAL participants, you will also receive exclusive bonus content--this may include additional instructions for customizing your mitts, special photo or video tutorials and other treats. This content will remain exclusive to KAL participants for 6 months after the KAL concludes--you will be able to access it at any time on this page with your password.
KAL chatter and photo sharing will take place in the Foxkit KAL thread in the MediaPeruana Designs Ravelry group. You're also encouraged to share your progress on Instagram and other social media using the hashtag #FoxkitKAL.
After the final section of the pattern is delivered on Monday, October 23, you'll have 2 additional weeks to knit your 2nd mitt. The official end date for the KAL is Monday, November 6--finish your mitts by this date to be eligible for the grand prize!
The Foxkit mitts are striped fingerless mitts that include various options for the cuffs, hands and tops and are COMPLETELY REVERSIBLE!
No matter which options you choose throughout the KAL, you'll be able to wear your mitts with either side facing out--it's like getting 2 mitts in one!
Don't believe me? Check out the video!
Sizes: XS (S, M, L); approx. hand circumference 7 (7 1/2, 8, 8 1/2)"
Required skills: vary depending on the options you choose; generally speaking, you should be comfortable knitting in the round, increasing, decreasing and working cables. Tutorials will be provided for more advanced skills required for some options.
- Worsted weight: 100 (150, 200, 250) yards in 3-5 different colors; the 5-color mitt sample uses approx. 20-50 yd of each color, depending on size and options
- Fingering weight: 200 (250, 300, 350) yards in 3-5 different colors; the 3-color sample uses approx. 60-125 yd of each color, depending on size and options
This project uses MINI SKEINS! Wheeeeee! There will be options for both worsted and fingering weight mitts, and so that you're fully prepared, here's a list of wonderful yarnies who sell mini skein sets!
Of course, you might prefer to use up stash or leftovers. You'll need 3-5 colors of yarn for striped mitts, depending on your design choices (or opt to knit them all in one color, there are no knitting police here!).
- You must be a member of Ravelry and the MediaPeruana Designs Ravelry group to participate; KAL chatter and photo-sharing will take place in the group.
- Once you've signed up, please keep the password for this page a SECRET! Anyone found sharing the password will be disqualified from the KAL and will not receive the final pattern.
- To be eligible for the grand prize, post a photo of your finished mitts in the KAL thread and create a Ravelry project page for your mitts, linking it to the pattern page (coming soon!). You'll have until Monday, November 6 to finish your mitts!
Coming soon . . . !
Why is it a "not-mystery" KAL?
It's not a true mystery because you've seen the finished samples! But like a mystery KAL, you'll receive a new section of the pattern each week. In addition, every section of the pattern will include options for customizing your mitts--the samples shown only represent a few of the possible combinations. Ultimately, every pair will be unique, and even you won't be sure exactly what they'll look like until they're done--a not-mystery!
Why won't the pattern sections be delivered weekly via Ravelry?
Delivering the bonus content associated with this KAL via Ravelry would be difficult, if not impossible, and I prefer to keep the pattern content in one place. In addition, one of the perks of participating in this KAL is that all of that bonus content is exclusively yours--if it were shared via Ravelry, it would be available to everyone who purchased the pattern, not just the original KAL participants. The final pattern will be added to your Ravelry library once the KAL is finished.
